Acquisition gives banks, credit unions, and mortgage lenders access to specialized default servicing built to recover insured reimbursements before missed deadlines turn them into permanent losses.

LAS VEGAS, NV August 24th, 2026. First Lien Capital today announced it has completed the acquisition of Universal Component Lender Services (“UCLS”), a licensed specialist in residential mortgage default management, compliance, and debt collection. This acquisition provides First Lien Capital a licensed platform to sub-service defaulted loans on behalf of banks, credit unions, and mortgage lenders that the internal capacity, specialized staff, or deadline discipline to capture.

“Banks are good at making and servicing performing loans. Most were never built to work with the individuals who default,” said Bill Bymel, Founder of First Lien Capital. “The cost of most servicing mistakes shows up in reimbursements a lender never collects and never knew it was owed. UCLS has found that money file by file for years. That capability means we can offer a client repair and mitigation before anyone has to talk about a sale or a loss.”

As mortgage stress deepens in 2026, it lets First Lien Capital offer clients a path to repair and recovery on defaulted loans before anyone has to discuss a sale or a loss.

UCLS builds its process around the default timelines and reporting milestones that determine whether a lender realizes full reimbursement on insured Agency or HUD loans. When those dates pass, the money behind them is usually gone for good.

Mortgage stress has shifted in 2026. While reported overall delinquencies have remained roughly flat, loans are moving deeper into the pipeline and the equity cushion appears to be evaporating. According to the Mortgage Bankers Association, the seriously delinquent rate has risen for four consecutive quarters, and FHA delinquency stands at 11.79%. FHA loans carry the tightest servicing deadlines and the largest reimbursement exposure — and much of that book sits at institutions whose teams were staffed for far cleaner conditions.

“Default servicing is a deadline business,” said Steve Paton, Chief Executive Officer of UCLS. “Every milestone has a date attached to it, and the recovery tied to that date disappears when it passes. Joining First Lien gives us the technology, team, and vendor relationships to do this at greater scale and with more precise execution.”

UCLS will continue to operate under Paton’s leadership and its existing management team.

For any lender holding defaulted or at-risk loans, the window to recover what’s owed narrows with every missed milestone. Together, First Lien Capital and UCLS now close that gap with one platform to identify, repair, and recover value before it is lost for good.
